Mapleton is getting ready for its 37th annual Mapleton Daze, June 22-27. Here is a partial schedule of the activities.
The week will start with the grand opening on Monday of the town’s newest restaurant, The Maple Den, which will begin at 4 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. There will be a pool party at the community pool from 6 to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome regardless of age.
Dinnar and a movie will be held Tuesday at the Mapleton Elementary School as a fundraiser dinner and a “drive-in” screening of the movie, “Cars”. All proceeds will be used to help the PTO raise funds for new playground equipment. Prizes for the best decorated cardboard cars for the “drive-in” will be given.

Bounce-a-palooza will happen Wednesday at the school. Come and join the fun of playing tons of bounce houses, slides, and obstacle courses. A rock wall, human whack-a-mole, and a mechanical bull will also be available. There will be a special unicycle demonstration as well as clowns, food vendors, and live music by Train Wreck.
On Thursday June 25, game night will return to the school. Bingo with prizes will take place in the cafeteria. There is no admission to the game. In the resource room, all cribbage players are invited to play in the annual Woodie Waddell Cribbage Tournament, which will start at 6 p.m.
Friday evening, June 26, will be a night of good food, music and fireworks. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the Mapleton Lions Club will start serving barbecue chicken dinners at the Lions Hall. Meals will feature a half-chicken dinners with potato salad, cole slaw, roll and drink. Also this year a new hot dog dinner will be available for the kids. Dinners may be enjoyed at the hall or simply taken to go.
At 6 p.m., the Mapleton Baptist Church will sponsor a cornhole tournament at the school. Participants 13 and older may register. The tournament will be limited to the first 20 people registering. Also, there will be a Gaga Ball Pit for additional action play. Food vendors will serve the many folks attending the evening activities.
Then at 7 p.m., popular County band Star City Syndicate will take the stage as a lead-up to the big fireworks show. Fireworks will start at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.). If it should rain, music will be moved inside the school and the fireworks will be delayed until Saturday night.

Saturday will start at 7 a.m. with a hike up Haystack Mountain, where participants will enjoy breakfast at the top. Everyone will meet in the parking lot below Haystack Mountain before going up for breakfast.
At 7:30 a.m., free breakfast sandwiches with drinks will be provided next to the post office by the area churches to all who stop by. Then at 10 a.m., the Haystack Historical Society will open, offering their homemade pie and ice cream at the museum. This is a fundraiser for the museum. Come in and see the family quilts on display.
Also at 10, the children’s bike parade will lead the Mapleton Daze parade down Main Street. Lineup will start at 9 a.m. with kids and bikes at pool street, with adult floats and parade entries on Dudley Road.
Activities will start at 11 a.m. at the school, including food vendors, face painting, touch-a-truck, bouncy houses, demonstrations, games, petting zoo, horse rides and a bike giveaway.
In the evening, a street dance will be held with Highway 207 and Train Wreck plying live dance music. A beer garden will be available as well.
