Thanks to the generosity of golfers, sponsors and community supporters, NorState Federal Credit Union’s 2nd Annual Special Olympics Golf Scramble raised $25,400 to benefit Special Olympics Maine athletes in Aroostook County.

Held on Friday, July 10 at Mars Hill Country Club and Saturday, July 11 at Long Lake Country Club, the tournament welcomed golfers who came together for a shared purpose — creating opportunities for local athletes with intellectual disabilities to thrive.

Proceeds from the event will directly support Special Olympics Maine programs in Aroostook County, helping provide year-round sports training, competitions, leadership development and health and wellness initiatives for local athletes.

“We’re incredibly thankful for everyone who helped make this year’s tournament such a  success,” Danielle Hebert, director of community engagement at NorState Federal Credit Union, said. “We raised $18,500 last year, so raising almost $7,000 more this year is truly amazing and is a testament to what makes Aroostook County so special. Every dollar raised will help create meaningful opportunities for our local Special Olympics athletes, and we’re honored to play a role in supporting their journey.”

Building on the proud tradition of the Cloukey Challenge, the NorState FCU Special Olympics Golf Scramble continues to bring communities together while celebrating inclusion, teamwork and the power of sport. The two-day format allows even more participants to get involved while expanding awareness and support for the Special Olympics mission across northern Maine.

NorState Federal Credit Union extends its sincere appreciation to the many sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants who made this year’s tournament possible. Special thanks also goes to the owners and staff of Long Lake Country Club and Mars Hill Country Club for their outstanding hospitality and partnership.

“We’re excited to see this event grow each year,” Hebert added. “The support we’ve received has been overwhelming, and we’re already looking forward to bringing the community together again next year.”
