Houlton’s annual Potato Feast Days will kick off on Friday with a $30 lobster meal complete with baked potato, fresh corn on the cob, lemonade and dessert.
The Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce’s 67th Annual Potato Feast Days will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and run through Saturday, Aug. 15.
Each year thousands attend the two-day event that, like many towns around the state, celebrates the transition from summer into a new school year and the upcoming September potato harvest.
Friday’s iconic lobster meal, cooked by the chamber and volunteers, always sells out fast. Organizers invite everyone to “roll up their sleeves and grab the butter” for the annual feast in Monument Park starting at 4:30 p.m. until they sell out. There’s a double lobster option for $45. Pre-orders are recommended by Aug. 12.
Also on Friday is the nostalgic doll parade, touch a truck, candy drop for kids and music by The Dave Hersey Band until 8 p.m.
People are typically lined up all morning for Saturday’s baked potato bar on Market Square, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., next to the Houlton Community Market. The loaded potatoes, packed with butter, chili, sour cream and cheese, often sell out before noon.
There’s a Saturday outdoor craft fair in Monument Park and a pie and ice cream social at Church of the Good Shepherd at 11 a.m.
Friends & Needles Quilt show runs Friday and Saturday at the Houlton Recreation Center.
