PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Coming changes in public retirees pensions and benefits will be challenging in the future. Retirees who worked for the state government, municipal government or a school district are finding the changing rules and laws around their pension, health insurance, property taxes and cost of living very challenging.
To help inform retirees, the Maine Association of Retirees will hold its annual regional meeting from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 15 at the Hampton Inn on Main Street in Presque Isle. Attendees will learn about legislative actions that may affect your retirement, the coming latest cost of living increase as well as upcoming health insurance changes. Information about medical plans will be shared as well, including information on Medicare Saving Plans.
Terry Sandusky, regional MAR chair, invites public retirees to this informational meeting. Diane Bailey, MAR executive director will lead the meeting with guest speaker Mark Nale, Elder Law Offices attorney. Nale will answer questions regarding important personal legal documents such as medical power of attorney, last will and testament and revocable transfer on death deed. Because it is becoming increasingly more difficult to gain admission to a nursing home when needed, he will also discuss basic rules of nursing home eligibility.
Speakers from the Maine State Visitor Information Centers will discuss activities and events around the State that retirees may have interest in attending.
