A Madawaska motel is on the market for the third time in less than a decade.

The Gateway Motel, a 33-room motel with an on-site restaurant, was listed for $650,000 on Sept. 28.

The facility is among the most northeastern lodging establishments in the U.S., situated along Route 1 toward the eastern edge of Madawaska.

The 5.13-acre property also has a three-bedroom owner’s residence and 12 additional rooms that could become rentable if renovated, according to the listing.

Formerly named Four Corners Inn and Suites, the motel was last sold in late 2022 for $650,000, and before that in 2019, transfer tax records show. The current listing price is below the property’s assessed value, which tax records list at $674,500.

Built in 1959, the establishment is just minutes from a Canadian border crossing, and a trail from its parking lot connects to ITS 81, which has made the motel at times a hub for traveling snowmobilers.

The motel’s owners did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
