Wednesday-Friday

Rain and patchy fog will continue across the Saint John Valley on Wednesday as warmer air moves into northern Maine. The rain should ease later in the day, though the change may come sooner near Van Buren than around Fort Kent. Another 0.25-0.50 inch is possible in the Fort Kent area. Southwest winds may briefly gust near 30 mph during the morning. Temperatures will rise into the upper 50s, followed by a mostly cloudy and largely dry night.

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week. Southerly winds will bring temperatures into the mid-60s despite increasing clouds. A disturbance approaching from the west may bring light rain during the afternoon and evening, but this round appears less substantial than Wednesday’s. Clouds should begin to break later Thursday night as the chance of rain diminishes.

Friday offers a brief pause between systems. Some morning sunshine is possible before clouds return, with temperatures near 60°F in the Fort Kent area and slightly warmer conditions possible toward Van Buren. West winds will accompany the change. Rain chances rise again after midnight Friday as a slower-moving system approaches. That return of wet weather marks the start of a cooler weekend, so Friday’s afternoon improvement is likely to be short-lived.

Saturday-Tuesday

Rain is likely across the Valley on Saturday as a weather system moves toward southern Quebec and northern Maine. Extensive clouds and periods of rain will hold temperatures well below Thursday’s mild readings. The rain may continue Saturday night, making this the wettest sustained stretch of the weekend.

Sunday will remain mostly cloudy, with rain likely especially during the morning. As the system gradually moves away, rainfall should become less widespread. A few showers could linger into Sunday evening before the Valley begins to dry out overnight. Afternoon temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 40s, followed by lows near freezing.

Monday brings some breaks in the clouds, although another disturbance could produce scattered rain. The chance is lower than during the weekend, and a dry period remains possible. Skies should become partly cloudy Monday night as temperatures fall into the upper 20s.

Tuesday looks cool and partly sunny, with a chance of rain developing during the afternoon. The timing and reach of the approaching disturbance remain uncertain. As temperatures drop toward 30°F Tuesday night, any lingering precipitation could briefly mix with snow. The available forecast does not establish whether snow would accumulate.

Looking Ahead: November 11-17

The Climate Prediction Center outlook favors above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation across northern Maine during this period. A broad area of higher pressure over the central United States may help keep the Northeast relatively mild while limiting the frequency of precipitation. For perspective, typical mid-November temperatures in the Saint John Valley include daytime highs in the upper 30s to around 40°F and overnight lows in the lower to mid-20s. The outlook describes the overall pattern; individual colder days and occasional precipitation remain possible.
