PIHS girls have rich hardwood history

1975
    Dianne Folsom was the head coach for the Lady Wildcats.  She had her team working hard from the beginning of the season and the girls played well against some very good competition.  They finished the season with a 2-14 record.  

Starters for many of the games were Mary Graves at center, Beth McIntosh and Barb Fitzgerald at forwards and Denise Guerette and Karen Forbes at guard.  Denise Guerrette carried much of the scoring load and was aided by Carmen Lauritsen, Mary Graves and Karen Forbes.  Other members of the squad were: Susan Alley, Lori Lynch, Lynn Beaulieu, Debby Berry, Linda Lamoreau, Joanne Hoffman, Vicky Jordan, Barbara Fitzpatrick, Kathy Gallagher, and Jayne Ledger.

1975-76
    The Lady Wildcats finished the season with a 9-6 record and an appearance in the Eastern Maine Class A Tournament held at Husson College.  During the regular season Denise Guerrette led the team in scoring with a 21.9 average, while Carmen Lauritsen added 9.8 and Sharri McHatten averaged 6.9 ppg.  
    The Presque Isle Lady Wildcats lost to Fort Kent in the quarter-final 48 to 36.  Denise Guerrette led the Wildcats with 11 points while Shari McHatten and Carmen Lauritsen collected 10 each.  Mary Graves did an excellent job on the boards gathering 12 rebounds.

1976-77
    Finished the season with a 9-7  record and again qualified for the Eastern Maine Tournament.  Lost to Hampden in quarter finals held at Husson College 61 to 41.  During the regular season Denise Guerrette was the leading scorer with a 21.5ppg. , followed by Beth McIntosh and Shari McHatten with 8.8 and 8.4 respectively while Trisha Gagnon contribute 6.4 ppg.  
    The Presque Isle High girls went to the tournament in eighth place and faced Hampden in the opening round at Husson College.  The girls lost their quarterfinal game 61 to 41.

 1977-78
    The 1977-78 squad completed the regular season with a 12-4 record with Denise Guerrette again the leading scorer with a 20 ppg average and Shari McHatten averaging  11.4 ppg.  Trisha Gagnon and Deborah Throne contributed 7.6 and 6.8 respectively.  Number 5 Presque Isle played number 4 Winslow in the quarter finals held at Husson College and won 66-47 behind Denise Guerrette’s 23 points Lisa Plummer chipped in with 11 and Shari McHatten added 10 points.    The Cats then played Mt Blue in the semi-finals and were handed a 52-45 defeat.  Presque Isle jumped out to a 17-9 first quarter lead but led by only one at the half 25-24.  Mt. Blue took control in the second half to solidify the win.
    Denise Guerrette was selected to the Eastern Maine All Tourney Team and was a Maine All-State First team.

1978-79
    The Presque Isle girls also had a successful year, finishing the season with a 12-4 record and fourth in the tournament seedings.  The girls, coached by Diane Folsom, were making their 2nd consecutive appearance in the tournament.  The girls were matched against 13-5 Winslow in the quarter-finals.  The lady wildcats took control of their game early at Husson College on their way to a 66 to 47 win.  Denise Guerrette led the wildcat scoring with 21 points, Trish Gagnon added 12 while Shari McHatten finished with 10.  Debbie Thorne took nine rebounds in the game.  The Wildcats moved on to the semi-finals where they faced Mt. Blue.  The Wildcats bolted in front with a 17-0 run and it appeared they would run away and hide from the No. 1 seed.  Mt Blue continued their comeback in the second quarter and trailed 25 to 24.  The Cougars took a 37-32 lead at the end of three quarters and eventually won the game 52-45.   Denise Guerrette completed her outstanding high school career as she led the PI scoring with 15 points.  Guerrette was also named a first team All-State selection.

1979-80
    The 1979-80 Wildcats finished 11-5 for the regular season and earned a spot in the EM Tournament played at the Bangor Auditorium.  During the regular season they were paced by three double digit scorers; Lisa Plummer’s 14.4 ppg, Debbie Lennon 13.5 and Kathy Roope with 11.9 ppg.  Andrea Smith contributed 9.3 and Leah Lamoreau 5.8 ppg.  The Lady Cats defeated Bangor in their opening round game of the tournament 57-48.  Andrea Smith sparked the offense with 14 points, Lisa Plummer added 13, while Lennon chipped in with 10 and Kathy Roope 9.  In their semi-final game Old Town defeated the Cats 58-31.  Debbie Lennon led the way with 12 points and Roope contributed 8 points.
