Students observe Maine Recycles Week

FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS at Zippel Elementary School recently observed Maine Recycles Week. During the week, students toured the Presque Isle Transfer Station and Recycling Center, created posters for the Maine Recycles Week poster contest, decorated paper bags with recycling tips for local grocery stores to distribute to customers, participated in workshops on recycling, and had a guest reader, Principal Sharon Brown, share a recycling story to fifth-grade classes.

The last event of the week was the Trashy Fashion Show where students reused clean household items that normally would have been trash to create a fashionable outfit for the show. Pictured in their outfits are, from left: Victoria Williamson, Mackenzie Whittaker, Izabelle Burtt, Emma Beaulieu and Elise Guerrette.
