HOULTON, Maine — An 18-year-old Linneus woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer following an altercation with police Sunday, Nov. 12.

According to Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca, Lindsay M. Gardner was stopped by Houlton officer William Janakis around 8:14 p.m. Sunday after a witness reported to police that she was driving erratically.

Janakis located Gardner driving on the Bangor Road and after having the driver pull over, determined she was under the influence of intoxicants, the chief said.

“During the officer’s roadside investigation, Ms. Gardner became uncooperative both verbally and physically, resulting in a physical altercation at the scene,” DeLuca said. “While at the Aroostook County Detention Facility, Ms. Gardner was being processed for multiple crimes when she struck officer Janakis several times. Officer Janakis was not injured in the assault.”

Gardner was charged with operating under the influence; disorderly conduct; refusing to submit to arrest; obstructing governmental administration; assault on an officer; and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

It was undetermined at this time whether Gardner had posted bail.
