Owl basketball teams split games vs. Vermont squad

The University of Maine at Presque Isle basketball teams played their final home games of the season Saturday against St. Joseph’s of Vermont, with the men coming out on top and the women losing in a pair of closely contested matchups.

The Owl men’s record evened at 12-12 following an 85-82 victory. Anthony Chacho had 22 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists, while Kevin Collins also tossed in 22 points. Maurice Harris and Deandre Duncombe notched 17 and 15, respectively.

The UMPI women are now 3-18 after falling by a score of 66-59. Rhylee Wright netted 14 points and also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots for the Owls. Jessy Dickison posted 11 points, six rebounds and four steals and Kendra Silvers came off the bench to put in 10 points.

Last Tuesday, the Owl women lost to Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, 68-33. Dickison, Wright, Teagan Laweryson and Marissa Reagle all scored six points to lead the UMPI offense.

The Owl squads will complete regular season play on Thursday, Feb. 15, when they travel north to take on UM-Fort Kent. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., with the men set to tip off at 7 p.m.
