2 injured when car hits moose on Route 1 in southern Aroostook

AMITY, Maine — Two Amity men were injured early Wednesday morning when their vehicle struck a moose. 

Jake DeHahn, 37, was driving south on U.S. Route 1 in Amity in a 1999 Audi A4 sedan at 5:55 a.m. when his vehicle struck and killed a moose that entered the roadway, according to Cpl. Corey Hafford of the Maine State Police Troop F.

After hitting the moose, DeHahn’s vehicle went off the road and into a field, before coming to a rest along a line of trees.

DeHahn and his passenger, 37-year-old Josh Burgos, were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated from the car by members of the Houlton Fire and Ambulance departments.

The two men were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by ambulance for received serious injuries that were not life threatening, according to Hafford.
