PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Presque Isle Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will sponsor its second annual July 4th Community Celebration today at Riverside Park in Presque Isle from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Featured events will include: a picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and ice cream, all provided free of charge by the Elks; a car show open to all entries; free boat rides on the Presque Isle Stream; games for children with prizes for all participants; live music; a demonstration by the Presque Isle Fire Department; and much more.

Commenting upon the Elks’ sponsorship of the annual event, Linda Allen, Exalted Ruler of Presque Isle Lodge 1954, said, “This community event symbolizes the Elks’ motto, ‘Elks care, Elks share.’ The July 4th holiday is a celebration of this great country in which we all have the wonderful privilege to live. All members of this community should have the opportunity to participate in this celebration without any exclusion. The Elks’ sponsorship of this event, totally free to the entire community, ensures that everyone can join in the celebration of our country.”
Allen added, “This event also evidences the importance that the Elks place in loyalty and service to our country. So many people have made such huge sacrifices in order to allow us to enjoy the benefits from living in this great land. On July 4, we need to take a moment to remember those sacrifices as we celebrate their collective achievement in making this the greatest country in the world.”
Allen encouraged all interested individuals to attend the free festivities at Riverside Park on Independence Day.
“On behalf of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge, I want to invite everyone in the area who has the time to join the Elks at Riverside Park in Presque Isle for the community-wide July 4th celebration. Everyone should have a lot of fun with the Presque Isle Elks picking up the tab. What could be better?” said Allen.
In the event of rain, all events will be held Sunday, July 8.
