Four teams compete in Fort Kent races

    FORT KENT — The Alpine portion of the Aroostook County High School Ski Championships were held on Saturday at Lonesome Pine in Fort Kent and the Warriors swept both the slalom and giant slalom for both girls and boys.

    ALPINE RACERS — Presque Isle Chelsey Carroll (left) and Matt Sullivan competed at Lonesome Pine in Fort Kent on Saturday in the Aroostook County Ski Championships. The Class B State Ski meet will be at Bigrock on Feb. 21-23.

    In the girls’ slalom race, Fort Kent scored 10 points, followed by Presque Isle (46), Central Aroostook (55) and Caribou (67).

    Roxy Pelletier was the race winner with a combined time of her two runs at 1:31.04.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 5, Chelsey Carroll, PI, 1:36.60; 7, Samantha Kearney, CAHS, 1:40.55; 8, Emma Bartlett, PI, 1:41.02; 10, Ginger Kieffer, CAR, 1:41.37; 11, Marissa Smith, CAHS, 1:44.43; 13, Whitney Cote, CAHS, 1:45.24; 14, Katie Plourde, CAR, 1:45.25; and 15, Jolana Gough, PI, 1:45.72.

    In the GS race in the afternoon, Fort Kent scored 16 points, with Caribou (37) in second, Presque Isle (45) was third and Central Aroostook (68) was fourth.

    Lexa Pelletier was the winner with a time of 1:48.21.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 3, Bartlett, PI, 1:51.59; 5, Courtney Burby, CAR, 1:55.04; 6, Plourde, CAR, 1:56.30; 7, Carroll, PI, 1:56.74; 8, Kearney, CAHS, 1:56.76; 12, Kieffer, CAR, 1:58.06; 14, Regan Buck, CAR, 1:58.68; and 15, Gough, PI, 1:59.73.

    In the boys’ slalom, Fort Kent totaled 14 points for the win, followed by Presque Isle (47), Caribou (59) and Central Aroostook (60).

    Brandon Ouellette of Fort Kent was the race winner with a time of 1:24.85.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 3, Spencer Stetson, CAHS, 1:27.34; 4, Cody Clayton, CAHS, 1:29.27; 9, Jacob Towle, PI, 1:33.08; 10, Matt Sullivan, PI, 1:33.11; 11, Sean Barbosa, CAR, 1:33.13; 12, Chris Carroll, PI, 1:34.18; 13, Dean Walker, CAR, 1:34.74; and 15, Nolan McDuffie, CAR, 1:38.07.

    In the GS race, Fort Kent was tops with 23 points. Caribou was second with 32 points, followed by Central Aroostook (48) and Presque Isle (62).

    Brandon Ouellette of Fort Kent finished first with a time of 1:44.17.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 2, Walker, CAR, 1:45.33; 3, Stetson, CAHS, 1:46.42; 4, Clayton, CAHS, 1:48.68; 5, Barbosa, CAR, 1:49.46; 10, McDuffie, CAR, 1:50.36; 11, Zach Grass, CAHS, 1:51.05; 13, Sullivan, PI, 1:51.65; 14, Freeman Short, PI, 1:52.17; and 15, Austin Caverhill, CAR, 1:52.56.

    The Class B State Ski Championships will be held on Feb. 21-23 at Bigrock Ski Area in Mars Hill.
