Hospice of Aroostook volunteer honored
The Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine, based in Augusta, held its annual membership meeting in Freeport on Sept. 13. The Media Award was presented to Steve Hitchcock, a volunteer for Hospice of Aroostook (HOA), a part of the Eastern Maine HomeCare Family.
Steve Hitchcock received the Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine’s 2012 Media Award from Deb Jacques, 
community relations manager for Eastern Maine HomeCare.
Hitchcock was nominated by Eastern Maine HomeCare for his many hours of effortful work to produce new educational and promotional materials for its hospice program.
“Steve is not only an outstanding hospice volunteer for patients and families but also has the skill set and talent we needed to improve our community education,” explained Deb Jacques, EMHC community relations manager. “His vision included a stronger emphasis on family testimonials. As a result, a new community presentation was developed, including a four-minute video featuring two families whose loved ones received hospice care.”
Hospice of Aroostook provided end-of-life care for nearly 200 patients and their families last year. Anyone with an interest in learning more about hospice care can view the video online at www.easternmainehomecare.org.
