FORT KENT, Maine — At the Maine Credit Union League’s 81st annual convention in Westbrook on May 17, credit union leaders from across the state were recognized for their outstanding service.

David Desjardins, president/CEO of Acadia Federal Credit Union, received the league president’s Outstanding League Volunteer Award before a crowd of over 700 during the convention banquet dinner.

“Our league’s awards program recognizes the exceptional work of our credit union network’s employees and volunteers,” said Cheryl Lancaster, executive vice president of the Maine Credit Union League.

“Each day, in every county across Maine, we have credit union representatives going above and beyond to serve their communities and their members,” she said. “These awards are our way of recognizing their commitment and expressing appreciation for their service.”

Todd Mason, president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League, nominated Desjardins.

“I nominated Dave because of his commitment to his community, his credit union, his chapter, and to the overall credit union cause,” stated Mason. “I think some of the things that exemplify him are his patience, his persistence, and his passion. You can tell with his leadership team and his staff — he’s engaged with them, they’re engaged with him, and as a result, they serve their members really, really well.”

Desjardins was unaware that he would be honored at this event.

“It was a complete surprise to receive this award,” he said. “I view my work on the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent boards as an extension of my work here at Acadia. Both organizations provide vital support and services to various credit unions, so I want to make sure I do my best to support them. This award is the kind of surprise that I like.”
