RAYNE, John Edward, Jr., 69, of Crouseville, died suddenly on July 10, 2007. John Edward Rayne, Jr., 69, formerly of Crouseville, died suddenly on July 10, 2007.
Mr. Rayne was born in Waltham, MA, son of John E. and Dorothy A. (Caouette) Rayne. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and attended Bentley School of Accounting before entering the Navy. He was stationed at Quonset Point Naval Base in Rhode Island and served aboard the USS Cambria in the Mediterranean during peacetime and the Vietnam era. A former Eagle Scout, he was a Scout Master in Rhode Island while in the Navy.
Mr. Rayne worked in the food industry for his entire career following his naval service. Starting at Brandeis University, then Boston College, Gould Academy, the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging, and completed his career as head of food services at the Cumberland County Jail.
Mr. Rayne was very active in Lions Club International. He joined in October, 1974 in Bethel, ME and served in the Presque Isle, ME Lions Club, the Tri-Berwick Club, Berwick, ME, and Kittery, ME Lions Club. He held many offices and chaired countless club, district and state committees over the years. He was awarded Life Membership in Lions International in October 2003 and had received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 1994. He transferred to the Charlotte, North Carolina Club in 2006. Mr. Rayne was recognized for
Perfect Attendance for all the years from 1975 to 2005.
He was the father of Christine Caprise of Gilbert, AZ, and Rachel Grantham of Charlotte, NC, both formerly of Crouseville; brother of Dorothy A. Dolly MacDonald of Phoenix, AZ, and James A. Rayne of South Upton, MA; and proud grandfather of Thomas John Caprise and Annaliese Caprise of Gilbert, AZ, and Acadia Grantham, Camden Grantham and Kaden Grantham, all of Charlotte, NC.
