Westfield Jubilee
It’s that time again, and Westfield is the place to be on August 24 – 25! They have many activities planned.
Friday night will see the ATV pulls happening with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. The food booths will also be open. For more information on the ATV pulls, call 429-8273.
Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with tractor pull registration (info at 768-6911). BINGO starts at 10:30 a.m., as does the parade lineup. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will go from town to the Westfield Park. To register for the parade, please call 425-2133. The Shrine Klowns will be on hand for part of the day. There will also be a horseshoe tournament with cash prizes. Register at 429-9558. You’re asked to bring your own horseshoes. (One can only assume that the horses are done with their shoes!)
From noon to 2 p.m., there will be pony rides. From noon to 4 p.m., there will be antique tractor pulls. From noon to 2 p.m., there will be wagon rides.
From 1 – 3 p.m., Wendell Hunt will provide music. At 2 p.m., there will be kids’ games happening, ending with a haystack hunt!
At 3 p.m., the popular Talent Show will begin. To register, call 429-9558.
At 3:30 p.m. will be the Women’s Frying Pan Throwing Contest. The second-place winner from last year claims that she’s going to WIN this year!
At 5 p.m., the pig roast and bean-hole beans will be served for $5 a plate. From 5 – 7 p.m., Fireman Fred will provide live music.
At 7:30 p.m., there will be live country music at Camper’s Paradise with a 9:30 p.m. bonfire planned. Make plans now to come for the entire day – or just for a while – but be there!
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. The guest speaker was Vicki Jackson, activity director at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill.
She spoke about the many things that the residents of the facility do to remain active physically, mentally and spiritually. Area churches hold services each Thursday night. Games are very popular – with BINGO and ‘horse racing’ among the favorites. Trips are arranged often to visit different places or to go to the mall shopping. They have a 14-passenger van with a wheelchair lift, although the number of residents that can go on an outing is limited to the number of helpers that can go. There must be one helper for each resident. There are currently just over 50 residents in the facility, with 75 – 80 percent in a wheelchair.
There are many ways that folks can help out the residents – from toiletries to game prizes to socks – although the main way is to just volunteer some time. If anyone is looking for specific ways to help, please contact Vicki at the nursing home at 768-4915.
Bridgewater music jam
Bridgewater’s music jams take place each Thursday evening from 6 – 9 p.m. and feature old-time rock ’n roll, country, oldies and standards. Regulars are Denis Gagne (BHA president) on the drums, Jann Votaw (BHA secretary) on guitar and vocals and Simon Blawej Clair on guitar and vocals. Some refreshments are available.
Trying to preserve a small town’s history is not an easy task, and the BHA thanks those who support their efforts. They hope to see everyone at their planned events.
Bridgewater Historical Association

Ladies Stitch & *itch Group
The Bridgewater Recreation Department has formed a Ladies’ Stitch & ‘itch Group. The group meets every other Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Civic Building. Ladies of all ages are invited to attend. There is no charge to attend. The group will meet on September 4 and 18.
This is an opportunity to bring whatever you are working on: cross-stitch, embroidery, scrapbooking, sewing, etc., and share good conversation while working on your favorite project. If you do not have anything to bring, that’s OK too, as others will be willing share and teach.
All are welcome – you don’t have to be a Bridgewater resident to participate, so bring your friends, too! For more information, contact Chris Finemore at 425-6606.
