This July, camp owners on Squapan Lake enjoyed their second annual Fun Fest weekend. Activities included games for the children, a casting-for-accuracy contest, a toy hunt in a pile of sawdust, demonstration by the Maine Forest Service accompanied by Smokey the Bear and a family scavenger hunt. The Aroostook Valley Sail and Power Squadron was also present to provide free vessel safety checks.
A patriotic camp decorating contest was held and the grand prize (a traveling moose antler) was awarded to camp owners Larry and Sharon Litvinchyk, of New Berwick.
The annual public bean-hole-bean supper was held, followed by a 50/50 drawing and the popular boat parade. Mindful of the patriotic theme, 12 participants decorated their boats, some donned matching shirts, hats and face paint. Others played patriotic music and sang to the panel of judges. One group even performed a well-choreographed flag demonstration! Trophies were awarded in three categories: Jeff Ashby, small watercraft (guest of camp owner, Alan Harding); Larry and Debbie Sawyer, motorboat category; Honorable Mention, Alan and Mary Harding; Mark and Nora Clark, pontoon category; Honorable Mention, Ernie Campbell and family.
The weekend concluded with a potluck supper at the landing followed by the annual business meeting held at Dave and Phyllis McIntyre’s camp.
The Squapan Outing Club would like to thank the public for its support. Whether you attended the bean supper, purchased a T-shirt or a hat, we truly appreciate the generosity of our surrounding communities! We look forward to another fun-filled weekend of activities next summer!
