HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton couple welcomed the first baby born in Aroostook County for 2021.
Myles John Flewelling — the son of Kayla Bendlin and Lucas Flewelling — was born at Houlton Regional Hospital at 1:03 a.m.
Flewelling missed out being Maine’s first New Year’s baby by a mere 8 minutes. That distinction went to Rowan Jess Tillson — the son of Vanessa and Joshua Tillson of Sidney — who was born at 12:54 a.m. at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
Flewelling weighed in at 7 pounds, 9.5 ounces and was 21 inches long. He is the second child for the couple and arrived exactly on his projected due date.
Bendlin said her 10-year-old son Landon was “beyond excited” for his new brother to arrive. The delivery went smoothly, lasting about six hours, she said.
Houlton Regional Hospital’s Labor and Delivery nurse Toni Hetherington presented baskets filled with baby items to the family to celebrate the birth of the facility’s first baby of the year. The gift basket was made possible by donations received from many local businesses, community members and HRH staff.
