The postseason began with a flurry of preliminary round games Tuesday, June 8. The following is a recap of those playoff games that were reported to the newspaper.
Katahdin 20, Shead 1 — At Stacyville June 8, the No. 3 Katahdin softball squad roared to the big win over No. 14 Shead of Eastport in a Class D North preliminary playoff. Maizy Cullen led the way with a two-run home run, double and single. Emma McNally added two hits, including a two-run home run; and Staci Lea Anderson had a double and single.
Katahdin (13-2) advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday, June 10, where the Cougars hosted No. 6 Woodland (12-3).

Bangor Christian 3, Katahdin 2 — At Bangor June 8, the No. 10 Katahdin baseball team came up just short in its quest for the upset against No. 7 Bangor Christian in a Class D North preliminary playoff.
Bangor Christian scored once in the bottom of the first, and added two runs in the bottom of the second before Katahdin shut the Patriots down the rest of the way.
The Cougars (10-5 overall) out hit Bangor Christian 5-2 in Tuesday’s game. Justin Hurlbert, Bradley Hotham, Josh Martin, Ethan Stewart and Kalan Mann each had one hit for Katahdin.
On the mound for the Cougars, Josh Martin tossed two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. Hotham came on in relief, tossing four shutout innings, giving up no hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Southern Aroostook 21, Schenck 2 — At Dyer Brook June 8, No. 5 Southern Aroostook rolled to a lopsided 21-2 victory over No. 12 Schenck of East Millinocket in a Class D North preliminary playoff.
For the Warriors (13-2 overall), Xavier Morales led the way with four hits and an RBI, while Garrett Harvey and Graham Siltz each had three hits and Conner Walker had one.
For Schenck (5-12 overall), Caleb Desantis had two hits and an RBI.
