Soccer squads stay busy

The regular season is starting to wind down for area boys and girls soccer teams. The following is a recap of games reported to the newspaper as of Monday, Oct. 11.

Boys Soccer

Hodgdon 4, MSSM 0 — At Hodgdon Saturday, the Hawks received two goals from Oisin Gardiner and solo goals from Josh McGillicuddy and Anton Mowrey as Hodgdon rolled past MSSM. Kameryn Matheson had two  assists on the day, both from corner kicks.

Hodgdon keeper Drew Duttweiler had 4 saves on 7 shots, while MSSM keepers Conner Start and Henry Tun combined for eight saves on 15 shots. 

Hodgdon improved to 7-3-1, while MSSM dropped to 2-3-2.

Van Buren 2, Katahdin 1 — At Stacyville Saturday, Sam Hebert scored two goals to lead Van Buren over the host-Cougars. Josh Smith and Adam Ayotte provided the assists on the goals. 

Kyle McNally scored off a Calvin Richardson assist for Katahdin.

Koby Searles had 16 saves on 26 shots for Van Buren, while Kalan Mann had 12 saves on 22 shots for the Cougars.

Van Buren improved to 3-5-2 on the year, while Katahdin dropped to 4-4-2.

MSSM 5, East Grand 0At East Grand Thursday, the MSSM Penguins received two goals from Oliver Sites and two from Liam Hollis, while Greyson Orne had a solo goal. Liam Hollis and Aryan Bawa each had an assist.

Keeper Connor Start made two saves for the Penguins and Derek Golding made 24 saves for the Vikings (0-7).

Katahdin 5, Southern Aroostook 2 — At Dyer Brook Thursday, Kyle McNally scored two goals and added an assist to lead Katahdin past SACS. Cole Chickering and Grady Ritchie each added a goal and an assist, while Jeffery Martin scored a goal.

Buddy Porter scored both SA goals.

Mann made nine saves on 16 shots for the winners, while Brennen Burpee had 21 saves on 27 shots for SA.

Hodgdon 2, MSSM 0 — At Limestone Oct. 6, Hodgdon’s Josh McGillicuddy and Oisin Gardner each scored solo goals to lead the Hawks past MSSM. Keeper Drew Duttweiler made 10 saves for the Hawks and goalie Connor Start made 15 saves for the Penguins.

Girls Soccer

Hodgdon 2, MSSM 0 — At Hodgdon Saturday, Delaney Little scored a first-half goal seven minutes into the game giving Hodgdon a 1-0 lead at the break. Ella Suitter added a second half goal for the Hawks. 

Limestone goalie Hadley Blodgett made 11 saves on 24 shots and Hodgdon goalie Madison Smith stopped the only shot she saw.

The Hawks are now 6-3-1, while MSSM is now 1-5 on the season.

Hodgdon 5, Southern Aroostook 1 — At Hodgdon Friday, Gracie Little scored four goals, including a penalty kick, to carry Hodgdon past Southern Aroostook. Delaney Little, Gracie’s sister, also scored a solo goal for Hodgdon.

Madison Russell had the lone goal for Southern Aroostook.

SACS goalie Libby Anderson made 11 saves on 18 shots and Hodgdon goalies Madison Smith and Paige Fitzpatrick combined for five saves on six shots.

With the loss, the Warriors fell to 6-4 on the season.

MSSM 3, East Grand 0 — At Danforth Thursday, Mattie Luce tallied three goals, while Esme Deschamps had two assists and Cecelia Corey added one assist for the Penguins. 

Keepers Hadley Blodgett and Della Benica combined for two saves on two shots for the Penguins, while Jayden Williams made 12 saves on 17 shots for East Grand. The Vikings dropped to 0-5.

Hodgdon 3, MSSM 0 — At Limestone Oct. 6, The Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the half as Faith Howland scored on an assist from Delaney Little with nine minutes left. 

In the second half, the Hawks scored two more as Delaney Little scored off an assist from Gracie Little and Gracie Little added her own goal unassisted.

Limestone goalkeeper Hadley Blodgett made 10 saves on 17 shots, while Hodgdon’s Madison Smith and Paige Fitzpatrick shared net duties and combined for five saves on five shots.
