MARS HILL, Maine — The Central Aroostook girls varsity basketball team was more than prepared when Easton entered the Panther’s den for a basketball game on Tuesday. With aggressive offense and solid communication, the Panthers overwhelmed the Bears 70-4.

The Panthers improve to 2-2 on the year, while the Bears fall to 0-4.

As soon as the game commenced, the Panthers came out swinging, and were determined to get an early lead. However, the Panthers also prevented any scoring from the Bears, and ended the first quarter on top 22-0.

From there, the process was rinse and repeat, as the Panthers repeated the process and scored an additional 22 points, bringing the total by halftime to 44-0.

After halftime, the Bears bolstered their defenses and played more aggressively. They prevented Central Aroostook from continuing their scoring pattern, allowing 10 points, while adding two to the board themselves, ending quarter three with 54-2.

While Easton’s communication improved throughout the game, they could not find the momentum to catch up to Central Aroostook’s massive lead. The Panthers claimed their victory over the Bears at the sound of the final buzzer with 70-4.

Central Aroostook was led by Kira Fitzherbert with 35 points, followed by Abby Haines with 26 and Rylee Pierce with four. Harleigh Allen chipped in three and Mallory Kingbury added an extra two.

“We came into the game not overlooking anyone,” said Central Aroostook coach Krystal Flewelling. “The girls had a goal to focus on ourselves and key in on our defensive principles. They did just that and I am really proud of them.”

Amelia Bate and Kaylee Boyce both scored two points each for Easton.
