CARIBOU, Maine – The Caribou Men’s Basketball League wrapped up its season Monday, April 11, by crowning a new league champion.
RE/MAX North Realty captured the coveted basketball trophy by beating the Aroostook Dream Team, 59-40 in the championship.
The league started back in late November with six teams participating, Each team played 15 games throughout the season, not counting the double elimination playoff tournament.
The regular season wrapped up with RE/MAX North Realty capturing first place with a 13-2 record, followed by County Physical Therapy, 11-4; Caribou Eye Care, 9-6; Aroostook Dream Team, 8-7; Thompson Financial Group, 3-12; and Nitco, 1-14.
During the April 11, championship, RE/MAX North Realty and Aroostook Dream Team kept the score close in the first half, before RE/MAX erupted in the second half to claim the title.
Leading the way for RE/MAX North Realty was Alex Bouchard with 13 points, followed by Dustin Haines with 11; Brandon Holdsworth, 10; Matt Till, nine; Stephen St. Peter, seven; Roland Thibodeau, six; and Colby Holdsworth, three.
For the Aroostook Dream Team, Greg Whitaker led all players with 20 points while Jonah Hudson, Craig Durost and Logan Halverson each netted six; and Shawn Smith chipped in two.
Aroostook Dream Team forced a second, winner-take-all game by previously beating RE/MAX 71-66. In that game, Aroostook Dream Team was led by Whitaker with 22 points, followed by Halverson, 16; Jordan Haines, 14; Durost, 10; Hudson, seven; and Jeremiah Fitzherbert, two.
For RE/MAX, Holdsworth tossed in 19 points, followed by Thibodeau with 17; St. Peter, 11; Bouchard, 10; Till, four; Ethan Holdsworth, three; and Haines, two.
