FORT KENT, Maine – Fort Kent Police arrested a local woman on Friday in connection with a dumpster fire near a business.

Krystie Gagnon, 46, of Fort Kent, faces charges of arson, a felony, and criminal trespass.

The fire occurred in the dumpster outside the Home Solutions building on 214 West Main Street in Fort Kent on Thursday. The police posted security camera images of the incident on social media afterward, asking for the public’s assistance in finding the person responsible.

“The flames from the fire appeared to reach 7 to 10 feet high and could have been catastrophic in damages to the surrounding buildings,” the post read. “Fort Kent Fire and Rescue assisted in putting out the fire.”

The post included two images, one of a bright fire outside the building, and another of an individual leaving the scene on a scooter.

Roughly one day later, police announced that they found and arrested Gagnon with the help of the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Gagnon was taken to jail in Caribou and has since posted bail, police said.
