Ryan Cyr competes with International Junior Hockey League

Ryan Cyr of Presque Isle is back on the ice this season playing for the Maine Moose, a new team competing in the International Junior Hockey Leauge (IJHL), a junior elite league with teams in Canada and the northeastern United States.
    The six-foot-two-inch, 180-pound forward has six goals and two assists for eight points in 12 games with the Moose.
“Ryan has very quickly established himself as a team leader,” said general manager Steve Levesque. “His hustle and maturity sets a great example for the rest of the guys.”
The IJHL is a college development program, made up of players ages 16-20. Of the 27-man Moose roster, 19 players are from Maine. The rest of the team is comprised of players from Canada, New York, Michigan, Colorado and Massachusetts. The Moose play their home games at Kennebec Ice Arena in Hallowell.
Cyr played high school hockey at Presque Isle and grew up playing youth hockey in the area. He is quickly becoming known in the league, according to his coach.
“He is a hard-nosed hockey player, who also has the ability to put the puck in the net,” Levesque said. “He works extremely hard in practices and games and is becoming a key player for this team.”
The Moose draw as many as 500 raucous fans to their games and are off to a great start at 13-7-3. They play several home games in December and January as well as a league showcase tournament in February. For more information about the team and its players visit their Web site at www.moosemainea.com.
