The Mapleton Recreation Program announced the fall Soccer Program registration is now live for online registration. Parents may register online at the following link, or in person at the town office{ registration.teamsnap.com/form/35121.
The 2025 Soccer Program will run from Sept. 2 through Oct. 17.
The soccer program schedule will be as follows: PreK-K children will play on Wednesdays. 1st-3rd grade students will play on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. 4th-7th grade students will play on Mondays and/or Fridays. Session times will be after school, typically at 3:30, 4:30 or 5:30.
The Mapleton Recreation Program has a full staff for this year, and is ready to go.

The program fee for players is $25 per child with a $70 max per family. The program has no additional non-resident fee for out-of-town youth players.
Paper registrations are still available at the town office for those who prefer the old-fashioned way. The program is excited to have soccer back this year after missing last year due to lack of available staff. The Mapleton Recreation Program aims to provide the an excellent program for these young players this fall. They look forward to seeing everyone.

Aroostook steamboats
This coming Sunday the Haystack Historical Society will host a presentation by Dr. Dena Winslow, who has recently published a historical account of steamboats in the Aroostook area. The title of her book is “Workhorses on to Water.”
Winslow explores the short but exciting history of active steamboats in the Aroostook County. The presentation will be held at the Haystack Historical Museum from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17. The museum is located at Main Street, Mapleton. The public is invited to attend.
Balloon Fest
The Mapleton Lions Club thanks everyone who came out to the Northern Maine Fair and enjoyed the club’s fair food at the Mapleton Lions Den. In fact, Saturday may have been the best single day for the club in the three years they have been operating the food booth.
The club’s new doughboy cooking and serving line was a success. Both food and doughboys were served quicker as result of the divided ordering and serving lines. Doughboys were cooked fast as they were ordered and that reduced waiting time. Customers commented on the improved speed this year at the food booth.

The lions are preparing for the coming Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. With these lessons learned, the Lions Club is ready and eager to cook and serve patrons attending the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. Their food booth will be open fro 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 24.
They look forward to serving their sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, red hot dogs, fries and doughboys. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a meal at the balloon fest. Remember admission to the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest is free, so come enjoy your favorite fair food, see the beautiful balloons and visit the crafters and venders that will be at the forum.
