Athlete of the Week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Sarah Porter and Warren Zubrick for being selected as athletes of the week for the weeks of Sept. 10 to Oct. 8 for Presque Isle High School. Indoor Soccer Classes
The Dutch Soccer Academy’s first trimester of indoor soccer classes has begun. Elementary and middle school students are still encouraged to attend Monday classes. The fee for one trimester is $63 and $179 for three. Classes are held at Northern Maine Community College on Mondays. For more information visit www.dutchsocceracademy.com.

Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m. against Southern Knights in Caribou
Oct. 27 at 12:30 p.m., semi-finals in Caribou

A fifth quarter will follow each game featuring less experienced players.

Trail clearing

The Nordic Heritage Center is currently looking for volunteers to help with the trail clearing every Thursday until the work is done. Work begins around 5:30 p.m. and continues until dark. For more information, contact Eric Hendrickson at 764-0252.

Turkey Trot 5K
The annual Turkey Trot 5k will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24 starting at Caribou High School. Registration begins at 9 a.m., the race following at 10 a.m. The first 50 runners get shirts. For more information, contact Dan Harrigan at 498-3226.

Bridge Club
Bridge is now being offered at the William V. Haskell Community Center. The group meets each Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m.

Fit and fun day
On Saturday, Oct. 27 the physical education majors club will hold its semi-annual fit and fun day, from 10 a.m. to noon, designed for children in grades one through five. Events include floor hockey, cup stacking and beach volleyball.

Middle school flag football
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will hold a week-long informal flag football program Oct. 15 to the 19. This drop-in program is open to boys and girls in grades six through eight and will be held from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Riverside Park. There is no fee or registration required.

Adult evening activities
Evening activities for adults will start Monday, Oct. 29. Activities will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Co-ed volleyball will be Mondays, men’s basketball will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, and co-ed dodge ball will be Wednesdays. There is a $1 fee per activity, and proper footwear is required.

Grades three and four basketball registration
Registration for the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department’s grades three and four basketball program has begun for Presque Isle residents. Non-resident registration began Wednesday, Oct. 10. Schedules will be ready to pick up at the Recreation Center on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
The registration fee is $15, and there is an additional fee of $30 for non-residents.

Easton Recreation Calendar
On Wednesday, Oct. 17: junior activities at the hall from 9:30 to 11, senior exercise at the manor at 1 p.m. and the after school program ‘come and play’ at the hall from 2:45 to 4:30.
On Thursday, Oct. 18: the senior citizen recreation group will visit Francis Malcolm Science Center to participate in the cider press program and then going out to lunch in Presque Isle. Everyone is welcome please meet at the science center at 10 a.m. The cost is $2.
On Friday, Oct. 19: swimming lesson participants depart directly after school and return at 4:45 to the hall.
On Monday, Oct. 22: the senior nutrition group will meet at the manor in the recreation room at 11 a.m.

Maine Handicapped Skiing
Maine Handicapped Skiing, an adaptive recreation program for children and adults with physical disabilities, has lesson openings available in downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
MHS offers free lessons at four locations in Maine: Sunday River Ski Resort (downhill skiing and snowboarding, Sunday through Friday); Sugarloaf/USA (downhill skiing and snowboarding, weekends only); Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center (cross country skiing & snowshoeing, Wednesdays and Fridays) and Pineland Farms, New Gloucester (cross country skiing and snowshoeing on Thursdays).
