Behind every kennel door, there is a story.
Sometimes the humane society has the whole story: “Fluffy, born Jan. 1, 2024, Good with kids, cats and dogs. Owner passed away.” Other times there is no story: “stray dog found on State Road, male.”
If you look into their eyes, you can tell part of the story; they may look scared, happy or anxious. It’s all in their eyes, and if you look, you can see the story they are trying to tell. They may be asking for a second chance, some quality time outside of the cage, a relaxing walk or just quiet time.
Behind every kennel door, they are confused, not knowing where they are or how they ended up in this situation. They experience so many strange smells and sounds, and see people they have never met staring at them through the kennel door.
Others are grateful not to be where they were, because there they were cold, hungry and afraid.
Some lack socialization and it can look like they were abused — animals who hide in a corner, cower or behave aggressively.
But take a chance, just one, to see who is really behind the kennel door. Know them before you judge them. They may have been a beloved companion or abandoned in the woods. No matter, they still deserve a second look.
Behind every kennel door, there is a story, good or bad. Somehow, they found themselves at the shelter, where they are safe, fed and warm with a loving, understanding staff and volunteers to help them through their transition. This is their temporary life, so staff members try to make them as comfortable as possible while they wait.
Behind every kennel door, there is an animal who is unique in his or her own way, with their own personality, a beating heart and hope for a second chance.
The Central Aroostook Humane Society works very hard to ensure that the animals in their care feel the love. We ask potential adopters to fill out applications so we can match pets with owners. All we ask is you give them a chance for a better life. Your kindness will be repaid tenfold.
