AMITY — Investigators with the Maine State Fire Marshals office say they’ll never know for sure what caused a deadly home fire in Amity.
On Jan. 17, fire completely destroyed a Williams Road trailer, the home of Edwin Connelly Jr. The 59-year-old died in the fire, along with his nine dogs. The blaze wasn’t discovered until Jan. 20 when a plow operator went to plow Connelly’s driveway and discovered “all that was left of the mobile home was the steel beams it once sat on.”
Investigators were on the scene Jan. 20 and Connelly’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiners office. There was no electricity connected to the home, they said, but Connelly was using a wood stove for heat.
The extensive damage made determining a cause for the fire unlikely, said a spokesman with the Department of Public Safety.
