Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter 233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, Feb. 1 meeting.
Seventeen ladies and five KOPS were present. Kay Grass is leader and Joyce Estey was the greeter for the month. Donna Parent will be February greeter.
Kay reminded the group election of officers will take place the first week in March. Elected officers to be filled are: leader, co-leader, treasurer and secretary. Slots to be appointed are: charm person, card distributor, and publicity.
Some of the ladies were dressed in red in observance of cancer awareness month.
Loser of the week was Joanne Scott with Gerry McAfee as runner-up. Joanne testified she ate a lot of vegetables for her weight loss.
Sherry Smith was the 50/50 winner; skinny dish winner was Anita Nason and Joanne Scott took home the mystery prize.
One of the members heard from Dellie Bennett, vacationing in Florida, and she said to say “hello” to everyone.
Margaret Dudley voiced her opinion on the new camera and asked for approval for her to buy new batteries.
Kay continued the program on “got attitude,” saying your attitude must reflect good things, on changes, to identify progress, to control portions and control diabetes. Frozen fish and fresh vegetables are recommended.
Joanne Scott, weight recorder, reminded the girls that weigh-in time ends at 8:45 a.m.
The next meeting will be Feb. 8. Weigh-in time is 8 – 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9 a.m. and ends usually at 10 a.m.

Another week is before us and the weather is always the topic. What is it going to do this week? We’ve had rain, snow, sleet, icy conditions, wind. What is left? We’ll take it regardless.
Congratulations to the Houlton High School cheerleaders who are making a mark. Good for them. Their hard work has paid off.
Too bad about the fire on Saturday night. It’s a terrible way to end a life. Our condolences to all of the victim’s family.
Here it is a new month. Some of the ladies wore red this past Friday in observance of heart month and awareness of same.
Now Valentine’s Day is coming. Do wish your Valentine a nice day and with some good words too.
The walking schedule at the Recreation Department is open to the public starting Feb. 4, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required and you may call by dialing 532-1310. There is no charge and it runs for 8 weeks. The program is sponsored by the STOP and the Houlton Recreation Department.
Two more programs on nutrition at the Houlton Regional Hospital the Maine Cooperative Extension is sponsoring. The sessions are very good—new recipes, easy, healthy snacks, new ways to save money, what food labels can tell us, healthy meals for busy people, portions and remedies to name a few.
Just to remind the ladies that the tenants here have Bingo each Wednesday at 1 p.m. Charlene is the caller.
Elinor Schenk is better now and is participating in the Meals on Wheels on the third floor. She had a little bit of the flu and was confined to her apartment for several days.
Peggy Robinson is back from Florida, reporting that she had a wonderful time.
My thought for the week is: “The Lord remembers us and will bless us…He will bless those who fear the Lord — small and great alike. (Psalm 115:12-13)
Have a good week.
