Dr. Gerald P. Soucy

    EDMUNDSTON, N.B., CANADA – Dr. Gerald P. Soucy died after a long illness on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in Washington D.C. at the age of 58. Gerald was born in Edmundston, N.B., Canada on July 29, 1949, the son of Roger L. Soucy of Windham, ME, and Theresa (Lausier) Soucy of Scarborough, ME.     He is survived by two sisters, Muriel Soucy of Scarborough and Alice Huffman of Windham and his brother Robert and his wife Debbie of Standish, ME. Gerald also leaves two nieces, Emily and Maria and a nephew, Jeffrey.
    Gerald graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1966. He received his BA at Northeastern University and his MA in Psychology from Boston University. On February 21, 1982, Gerry graduated from DePaul University with a Ph.D in Psychology. While studying in Chicago, he worked at Northwestern Hospital and Brown Clinic where he worked with people suffering from HIV/AIDS.
    After relocating to Washington, DC, Gerald worked in various leadership positions at the National Institute of Mental Health before moving to the Department of Justice. Gerald spent his last 15 years at the Department of Justice as the Chief of Communications in their Office of Justice Programs where he and his staff were responsible for developing drug addiction materials for law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Throughout his career, Gerald volunteered trying to improve the life of those suffering from HIV or AIDS related illness.
