Miss Maine Day scholarship pageant

    Officials with the Miss Maine Scholarship Program have announced that the 2009 Miss Maine Day Scholarship Pageant will be held in Saco at the Hampton Inn, 48 Industrial Park Road, Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m.
    The pageant awards scholarships for academic achievement and essays to the winners of each category and focuses on poise, grace and giving back to communities.
    Age categories are Miss Mini Maine (4-7 yrs.) Little Miss Maine (8-11 yrs.) Miss Maine’s Young Teen (12-14 yrs.) and Miss Teen Maine (15-17yrs.)
    Participants are required to model sportswear, evening gowns, perform a two-minute talent and answer on-stage questions.
    Special guest performers and host of this year’s pageant are Suzanna Stauble of Gray/New Gloucester, Miss Maine 2009 and Saco’s Kristin Korda, Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen 2009.  Korda won last year’s competition in the teen division and went on to win Maine’s Got Talent and then Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen in June. Both young women won a combination of over $100,000 in scholarships and prizes.
