The Houlton Shiretown golfers played a four-way match last Wednesday at Houlton Community Country Club.
The Shires shot a team score of 167 to best Fort Kent (2-2) 181, John Bapst (0-4) 198 and Stearns (1-3) 201.
Taking low medalist honors for the entire match was Houlton’s Ian Gervais, who shot a 37. Tying for low medalist in the matchup between Fort Kent and Stearns were Dan MacKenzie (S) and Alex Chasse (Fort Kent) with 41s. In the matchup between Fort Kent and John Bapst, Chasse was the low medalist.
Scores for Houlton were: Nick Chase 41, Logan Shaffer 43, Gaige Flewelling 46 and Ethan Quint 49.
Fort Kent: Kale O’Leary 46, Garrett Albert 45, Dustin Dubay 49 and Derek Chasse 52.
John Bapst: Matt Storgaard 44, Alex Hart 69, John McEwen 55, Chad Rider 45 and Pat Kilbride 54.
Stearns: Jared McGillicuddy 44, Alex Waller 63, Chad McKay 60, Barry McLeod 56 and Andrew Carrell (Schenck) 78.
Presque Isle 168, Houlton 178 — At the par-36 Presque Isle Country Club Thursday, Presque Isle’s Evan Waddell and Houlton’s Ian Gervais shared medalist honors for the day as both shot a 40.
The individual Presque Isle (3-0) results were: Travis Dyer, 42; Jordan Hallett, 45; Waddell, 40; Adam Flynn, 44; Keenan Eaton, 51; Zac Campbell, 46; Alex Tuttle, 42; Matt Freeman, 46; Cody Merrill, 43; and Alex Doody, 47.
The individual Houlton results were: Gervais, 40; Nick Chase, 55; Logan Schaffer, 44; Gage Flewelling, 47; Parker Sanderson, 52; Ethan Quint, 50; Mike Ring, 47; and Isaac Brown, 63.
Hodgdon golfers:
The Hodgdon varsity golfers are improving each time they hit the links. Last week, the Hawks earned a win over Katahdin on Monday. They had lost their first four meets of the season before taking a turn to the better.
“The kids are doing better every match,” said coach David Grant.
In their first match, the Hawks shot a team score of 226 and they shaved off 20 strokes since the beginning of the season.
On Monday, the Hawks defeated the Cougars, 206-236, despite not being as precise on their shots as they would have hoped.
Katahdin’s Brandon Robinson was the low medalist shooting a 39.
Chris Wallace led the Hawks with a 45, a stroke ahead of senior Chris Williams. A.J. Acott carded a 57, while Paul Griffin was a stroke behind and Nick Lunn finished with a 63.
After Robinson, the Cougars’ scores were: Cody Cunningham, 54; Cordell Guptill, 71; Matt Birmingham, 72 and Brady McNally, 73.
At Houlton Community Country Club last Friday, the Hawks lost in medal play to Fort Fairfield, 212-207.
Fort Fairfield’s Landon Towle was the low medalist with a score of 47.
Hodgdon was led by Wallace with a 50 and Williams 51. Rounding out the scores were A.J. Acott 56, Paul Griffin 55 and Nick Lunn 59.
Fort Fairfield scores were Billy Weisman 52, Ian Givens 56, Tyler Churchill 52 and Brandon Clark 56.
The Katahdin Cougars played a three-way match with Central Aroostook and Ashland last Friday at Mars Hill Country Club.
CAHS defeated Katahdin in match play, 11-0 and Ashland, 9-2. The Hornets topped Katahdin in match play, 10.5 to .5 points.
Kaine Kingsbury of Mars Hill was low medalist, shooting a 42.
Scores for CAHS included: Will Delong, 45; Logan McLaughlin, 50; Abe Brewer, 48 and Tim Lawrence, 74.
For the Cougars: Robinson, 47; Cunningham, 69; McNally, 77; Birmingham, 72 and Guptill, 83.
Ashland scores: Mark Corella, 47; Jordan Beaulier, 60; Dylan Cyr-Cormier, 55; Taylor Condon, 56 and Amos Ward, 56.
