Katahdin Trust bankers to help teach children savings habits

HOULTON — On Tuesday, April 12, bankers from Katahdin Trust Company will start children throughout northern and central Maine on the path to a positive financial future by participating in the 15th Annual National Teach Children to Save Day (TCTS), a nationwide event to teach children their financial ABCs.
“While today’s kids can receive e-mail through their cell phone to do their homework or text alerts when school is cancelled, many don’t know the basics of saving and money management,” said Katahdin Trust Company Senior Vice President Marketing & Communications Vicki Smith, who oversees the bank’s efforts in the program. “Studies show that people who learn to save early in life usually make smarter financial decisions later. Teach Children to Save Day starts our children off on the right path to saving for their future.” Smith said this is an important service we can provide in our community – to our friends, neighbors, and customers.
The following 26 Katahdin Trust Company employees will be reaching out to over 820 students across northern and central Maine:
Karen MacDonald, Ashland District School, third grade; Crystal Parent, Eagle Lake Elementary, second grade; Danelle Brewer, Easton Elementary, first grade and Kim Embelton, third grade; Laura Law, Fort Fairfield Elementary, pre-k;  Jana Shaw and Leslie Carlow, Fort Fairfield Middle/High School, ninth grade and Hill Top, second grade; Kelly Kilcollins and Renae Crouse, Fort Street Elementary in Mars Hill, fourth grade.
