MERWIN WELSH, of Presque Isle, got a surprise recently when he went to his garden to pick a cucumber. Spotting one beneath the leaves, he began pushing the greenery aside, only to discover he had to move more.
When he finally uncovered the specimen, he discovered what looked more like a zucchini than a cucumber, measuring a surprising 18 and a half inches. According to Welsh, this one must have been hidden when he picked others earlier from his garden, since it was the only one from the patch to reach such size.
