Pumpkins, Poems & Scarecrows Extravaganza

    MAPLETON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL recently hosted its annual “Pumpkins, Poems & Scarecrows Extravaganza.” Students and their families were encouraged to work together to create a pumpkin, a poem, a scarecrow, or any combination of the three that promotes the importance of reading.
Displaying their pumpkins are, from left: fifth-grader Michaela Dubé and her Smurf and mushroom house pumpkins, fourth-grader Grace Player and her pumpkin based on the Judy Schachner book, “Sippyjon Jones”; and fifth-grader Nick Newell and his turkey from the book, “A Plump and Perky Turkey,” by Teresa Bateman.
