Julie Bennett, the daughter of Donna and Peter Bennett of Caribou, a Caribou native and 2000 graduate of Caribou High School appeared on Wheel of Fortune on Friday Dec. 7 with excellent results. Bennett, who is currently a ninth-grade government teacher at Edward Little High School in Auburn received her opportunity to be on the popular game show when she attended the Yarmouth Clam Festival and met with the Wheel Mobile at the event. She taped an episode on Nov. 15 and was sworn to secrecy regarding the results until the show aired.
“It’s such a relief to be able to tell people about how I did now,” said Bennett.
Bennett received total cash and prizes valued at $29,550, which included a trip to London and a $2,500 credit card from creditcards.com.
“70 of my closest friends, my family and coworkers all watched the show with me at Mulligans,” an Auburn area bar and eatery said Bennett.
“Whenever I spun the wheel or got a puzzle right everyone cheered, and they bood when I messed up or when someone else did well,” said Bennett.
Bennett has become a local celebrity and is enjoying her moment in the limelight.
“People that I don’t even know are coming up to me on the street and shaking my hand now,” said Bennett.
Bennett was the big winner on the show and went all the way to the bonus round. Unfortunately she missed the final puzzle, “High and Mighty.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever live that one down. People keep telling me that they were yelling the answer at the screen, but I couldn’t hear them,” said Bennett.
Bennett still has a lot to be thankful for as she awaits her prizes, which will arrive in a few months.
“I’m anxious to see how everything turns out,” said Bennett.
Bennett has one year in which to use her trip to London, and hopes to go sometime next summer, while school is out for vacation.
