Tyler, the cat, wants a home for holidays

Brody is on a week-end sleep-over with an adoptive family. We are so excited as Brody has been such a good dog but people kept passing him by because he would get so excited to see them. Being a large dog, one would question how active he would continue to be in a home. But we knew our Brody, and, finally, someone decided to give Brody a chance. Sometimes, that is the only way, certain pets will get a home and we need to provide them with a opportunity to prove what a good pet they can be.

Like Tyler, the kitten in the photo we are featuring this week. He is a 5-month neutered male with an adorable personality. Black and white kittens have a small chance to be someone’s first choice of adoption. Why? It just is, and our hearts break when we see a kitten as wonderful as Tyler continually overlooked. The second reason, Tyler is overlooked is even though he has a loving, gentle and fun nature normally, when people approach him at the shelter, he goes ape with a “I’m crazy and loving it” personality. Most people look at that and think he might climb the curtains or ruin the furniture. But Tyler just wants you to like him best. Under normal situations at the shelter, Tyler will play joyfully with the other kittens, or carry a toy mouse proudly around to make sure people are seeing how smart he is, or if there is an empty lap, you can bet that Tyler will find it and curl up for some much wanted love.
All of our shelter people do their best to give loving attention to our pets. Our facility is set up to give each animal the best individual attention they want so badly. But we are only a safety facility. We are not, and can never compete with the warmth and comfort of a “real” home. Believe me, the animals all know the difference.
We are so grateful to our shelter angels again. On December 17, a group of our comfort care volunteers are meeting to make up “Welcome Home” baskets for the CPR pets that are adopted over the Holiday season. We will start giving out these pet baskets to families who adopt from Dec.18th until we run out of supply. Dogs will have “Welcome Home” gift bags of dog items they will require the first few days, and kittens/cats will be given a gift-wrapped litter pan of cat items they will also require the first few days.
There is never a bad time to bring a gift of love into any family. My caution would be to only try to give the new pet lots of quiet time away from the fun and folic of the season. A nice amount of quiet and rest time is important to any animal (or person) when they are in the process of making a life change. Also, please keep decorations and electrical wires away from young kittens and puppies. But if you are thinking of adding to your family, please consider our wonderful pets at the Caribou Pet Rescue.
Caribou Pet Rescue is located at 6 Richards Rd in Caribou. Mailing address is PO Box 488, Caribou, ME 04736 Neuter and Spay – It’s the ONLY Way.
Please continue to donate your returnable bottles and cans to Caribou Pet Rescue. Each week when I go to the 18 Bennett Drive Redemption, they have several envelopes of cash waiting for us. This is a huge help and we are grateful to you. We need to keep tour fuel tank filled this winter and that is not going to be easy – but with your help, we can do it.
At this time, we are in need of Purina Kitten and Purina Cat Chow. Bleach is always needed and we use a huge amount of laundry detergent. Call 498-3800 for information .
