PRESQUE ISLE – A local man is behind bars after being arrested for reportedly assaulting his 5-week-old daughter.
“Following a joint investigation between myself and Maine State Police Det. Adam Stoutamyer, 25-year-old Patrick Bailey, of Presque Isle, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 9, for the aggravated assault of his 5-week-old daughter,” said Det. Bill Scull of the Presque Isle Police Department. Scull said the assault occurred last Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the family residence at 68 Chapman Rd. in Presque Isle.
“Bailey is scheduled to be arraigned on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Caribou,” said Scull.
According to Deputy D.A. Carrie Linthicum, Bailey’s arraignment will take place at Caribou Superior Court. Linthicum said bail has been set at $75,000 single surety and indicated cash bail was set around $20,000 to $25,000.
At presstime, Linthicum said Bailey had not made bail and remained at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton awaiting his court appearance.
Scull said the child, whose name is not being released, is hospitalized at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
“His daughter is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at EMMC with serious internal injuries. The Department of Human Services has been notified and is conducting their own investigation,” said Scull.
Bailey faces up to 10 years in prison for the charge of aggravated assault, a Class B felony, said Linthicum.
