True acts of patriotism

To the editor:
I read David E. Corey’s letter to the editor and I just wanted to let him and Mr. Getchell know I also have seen a huge difference in the way this country and the flag are respected by Americans. I attended the parade in Fort Fairfield with my 19-year-old granddaughter (who lives in Canada) and she tapped me during the parade to show me an older man standing a few feet from us with his hat over his heart as the veterans and color guard marched past. My granddaughter then noticed across the street a younger man, who stepped out a little from the crowd and saluted the color guard and the soldiers. We were in front of the Irving gas station when we observed these two men.
I would like to thank both men for showing my granddaughter patriotism. She was impressed more with these two men then with watching the parade. It is sad that people take these men and women for granted, who have served their country now and then with so much pride and honor.
Thank you again, gentlemen, for showing a young girl the true meaning of pride in your country. We need more people like Mr. Corey and Mr. Getchell to stand up and show their pride in this country and help the younger generation understand what patriotism means.
