Caribou firefighters responded to two structure fires in Caribou on Monday, June 13.

The first call came in 9:50 a.m. regarding a house fire at 9 Lower Washington Street, a two-story home used as a daycare. The fire department was informed, by the caller, that everyone was outside of the home at that time.

Caribou firefighters contained a small upstairs fire on Lower Washington Street.

When firefighters arrived, a small fire originated in an upstairs storage room. “ It was a quick stop — a quick control,” stated Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods. According to Woods the home suffered only minimal smoke and water damage.

Fifteen firefighters with five units were at the scene for 50 minutes. There were no injuries and  the Presque Isle Fire Department provided mutual aid at the Caribou station.

The property, owned by Richard and Tammy Archer was insured.

At 3 p.m. on Monday, 19 firefighters responded with four units to a second structure fire at 912 Sweden Road, discovered by a passer-by who alerted the CFD.

Chief Woods said the building, a trailer with an addition, was fully involved when Caribou firefighters arrived at the scene. Woods also stated that neither the owner, Jamie Fulton, or his 12-year-old-daughter were at home at the time of the blaze.

Caribou firefighters, at the scene for two and one-half hours, received mutual aid from the North Lakes and Presque Isle fire departments.

According to Woods, the trailer fire has been turned over to the state fire marshal’s office for review.

The Sweden Road property was insured.
