Patrick and Pearl found that life was just a little bit stressful in the first few hours after arriving at the Halfway Home Pet Rescue (HHPR) in Caribou; within a short time, however, they were back to playing with their other three siblings — Pierre, Peter and Peggy — and were reunited with their mom, Priscilla. President of HHPR Norma Milton explained that the “P” litter of kittens is from Presque Isle. Along with two other litters from Limestone and Caribou, HHPR’s totaling 14 kittens available for adoption within one week. Each kitten has received full veterinary care  and will be adoptable for $55, which includes a spay/neuter voucher for when they are old enough for the surgery. All adult cats (over 6-months old) that are already spayed and have a clean bill of health will be adoptable at a special August price of $20. HHPR will have a hot dog BBQ, with macaroni salad, soft drink and pastry for $4 on Friday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. during the Caribou Cares About Kids Parade; the HHPR barbecue will be held at Sports Inn on 97 Bennett Drive. “Toby’s Treasures thrift store is open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with adoptable cats on site and many new or nicely used items for sale at very low prices,” explained Milton. “Our used shoe collection is an ongoing fundraiser and shoes may be dropped off at 11 Pioneer Ave., or on any Saturday at the former Images Beauty Shop location on Sweden St. in Caribou or at Ouellette’s Variety between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.” T.D. BankNorth’s Presque Isle and Caribou locations will also be featuring a shoe donation box in their lobbies. HHPR is a 501c3 non-profit.
