Register now for local Acadian family reunions

Aroostook County residents are reminded to register to attend their family reunions during the World Acadian Congress next month.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of us, and I hope everyone attends at least one local family reunion,” said CMA 2014 Maine Regional Coordinating Committee President George Dumond.
Families are reporting registrants from several states, inclucing Louisiana, New England, Texas, Maryland, and many from New Brunswick and Québec provinces but very low numbers from the St. John Valley or Aroostook County have registered.
Dumond said that registering for a family reunion is very simple for those with access to a computer and the Internet and can be done so by typing in (family name).cma2014.com — for example, dumond.cma2014.com or picard.cma2014.com — and click around to see the schedule of events, committee members, and other pertinent information.
“Then click on ‘registration,’ fill in the form, and send your modest payment to the address indicated at the bottom of the web page and you’re good to go,” Dumond described.
“Many families have hired a caterer to serve meals,” said MRCC Vice President Don Levesque, “and those caterers need a headcount. Those who do not register ahead of time may end up waiting in long lines at local restaurants for their meals instead of being served along with everyone else at their family reunion,” he noted.
“Family reunion committees have been working very hard, meeting often and doing a lot of planning, for over a year.” said CMA 2014 Maine Coordinator Lorraine Pelletier. “It would be terrible if local people missed their family reunions.”
Dumond encouraged everyone to register for their family reunions.
“The CMA is the biggest, most exciting event to ever happen in The Valley. You don’t want to miss any of it,” he said.
