Named Grand Officer — Mrs. George V. Blanchard, Past Worthy Matron of Lunar chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, was installed as Grand Esther at the 55th annual Grand Chapter session held at Kora Temple in Lewiston May 26, 27 and 28.

Brown received a 35-year service award — Harold Brown, manager of the Caribou – Presque Isle area of the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co., received an emblem signifying 35 years of service with the telephone company.

Umphrey named head of Colby Alumni — Harry Umphrey was named president of the Northern Aroostook Colby Alumni Association at the annual spring meeting of the organization at the Northeastland hotel.

Four Presque Isle insurance agents in “Round Table” — Four Presque Isle life insurance agents were among the 36 in Maine who qualified for membership in the Maine Quarter Million Dollar Round Table, according to an announcement by Heinz B. Koenig, chairman of the membership committee.

Easton, Ashland speakers won in league contest — Ashland High school won the team prize in the Aroostook Central League speaking contest at Easton, while Irene Fuller of Easton High School won individual honors.

Northern Driving Club sets goal at 500 members — A campaign for membership in the Northern Aroostook Driving Club got underway throughout Aroostook County with a goal of 500 members. This newly organized driving club originated in December 1946.

To benefit Rotary scholarship fund — As a memorial to Paul P. Harris, the founder of Rotary who passed away in January, more than 6,000 Rotary Clubs throughout the world raised a $2 million fund for international student fellowships and for other activities to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.

Double winner — Captain Freddy Adams of the Presque Isle Wildcats was voted the most valuable player of the Aroostook League current season by the coaches and referees. He was also named to both the All-Aroostook League team named by the coaches-referees combination and The Star-Herald.
