Caribou DustBowl adds more community events in its second year

The event started 11 years ago as a fundraiser for the town’s Riverfront Committee but was handed over to the town’s farmer’s market several years ago.
A summerlike day on Saturday drew more than 200 people to the Caribou Municipal Airport for the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual beer- and wine-tasting celebration.
Hosted by the nonprofit organization Twins Riverwood, this year’s theme celebrated the period around the late 1600s and early to mid-1700s in which “buccaneers,” or pirates, sailed the Caribbean.
In 1984, Air Force veteran and Orlando, Florida, native Joe Kittinger, then 56, set out to beat the Double Eagle II’s record and fly to Europe in a hot-air balloon.
The St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce will also host a Fall Fest Community Wide Yard Sale on Sept. 21 and 22.
Since launching the festival in 2006, Stev and Nancy Rogeski have been dedicated to bringing fan favorites and emerging performers.
Momentum has continued after the success of last year’s tour, which included the addition of options for ATVs and motorcycles along with several other activities
A total of 16 balloons came from as far away as England and Florida for the annual event.
This year, 10 bands will perform alternating sets from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 at The Farm Park in Fort Fairfield.
