Looking to fill positions — The United States Civil Service Commission has announced an examination to be held at Caribou, Maine, on June 14, 1924, to fill the position of rural carrier at New Sweden and vacancies that may later occur on rural routes from that post office.

Littleton man raises 500-pound birds ‘for the fun of it’ — what began as idle curiosity has now become a profitable hobby for Richard Pellerin of Littleton. He raises ostriches. “I just raise them as a hobby,” said Pellerin. “I love animals and had some ducks once and they disappeared. I also had some geese, but I gave them away.”

Over $1,800 Is Realized By Ricker Walk-A-Thon — Over $1,800 was realized from the Walk-A-Thon sponsored Saturday by the Ricker College Student Senate. One-quarter of the proceeds, before expenses, will go to the Houlton Recreation Department, with the balance going to the college.

Lowell has an automobile — E. L. Lowell of the Mars Hill View is the second newspaper man in the county to have an automobile. Bro. Fogg of the Houlton Times being the first. Mr. Lowell now rides about the county in a Ford runabout.It is wrong and naughty to envy the good fortune of others, and so we don’t; but we cannot help wishing we had an automobile.
