Help make high-speed internet a reality

To the editor:
Maine has the opportunity in the upcoming primary to bridge the “digital divide” and start to enable all communities large and small to have access to high-speed internet.  

City deserves better passenger treatment

While the city makes a bad call, [United] at the Presque Isle Airport makes one worse. Traveling to Presque Isle due to the death of my grandmother was the nightmare of all nightmares. I thought the worst part of my trip was over after the funeral. I was completely wrong. 

Christmas spells love

In 1957 our nation was privileged to see the showing of the movie “The Miracle Worker.” This was a portrayal of the early life of Helen Keller, who was born in 1880 and at 19 months old contracted meningitis that so affected her brain that she came through this fever blind, deaf and mute.

We need a solution for medical expenses

To the editor:
As Congress returns to work again, taking up the issue of surprise medical bills will present itself. I hope our leaders, like Senator Susan Collins, will hold insurance companies accountable for their role in this problem. 

Stewart is wrong about airport infrastructure

To the editor:
In an Aug. 23 column, Rep. Trey Stewart (R-Presque Isle) argued that airports were currently flush with money and that the solutions to the airport infrastructure plan being considered in Washington would be bad for rural Mainers. He is wrong on both accounts.

St. Mary’s school wasn’t all roses

After reading the article in the Houlton Pioneer Times last week about the fond memories that some people had about attending St. Mary’s school, I was prompted to write this.
