Michaud sets PIHS soccer scoring mark

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Madison Michaud may only be a junior, but that didn’t prevent her from establishing a school scoring record last week.

The striker surpassed Kayla Legassie, who played from 2005-08, as Presque Isle High School’s leading career goal scorer in soccer.

Legassie scored 71 during her career, but Michaud matched and beat that total during her team’s game on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at East Machias. Michaud scored six times in the 10-0 win, giving her 73 at the time.

After scoring twice in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Old Town and netting three more Monday in a 3-1 home victory over Hermon, Michaud now has accumulated 78 with three regular season games still left this season, plus the playoffs.

“With Maddie, it’s more than just having a knack for scoring goals,” said her coach Ralph Michaud. “She has worked really hard on everything, but she is becoming a complete goal scorer as she is getting better with her left foot and is also working on being a factor on header goals as well.”

Michaud, a starter throughout her Wildcat career, scored 25 goals as a freshmen and netted 27 more as a sophomore.
