Wing claims a first and second at PVC swim meet

ORONO, Maine — Madelyn Wing placed first in the 100 butterfly and was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle to lead Carlisle swimmers at the Penobscot Valley Conference championships held over the weekend at the University of Maine at Orono. 

The girls’ meet was held Saturday and Carlisle scored 55 points, good for 10th overall out of 12 teams.

Wing captured the fly title in 1 minute and 3.49 seconds, while her time of 2:06 in the 200 free was just 2.55 seconds behind winner Emily Aucoin of Brewer. She already held the school record in the 100 fly and after Saturday now owns the top time in the 200 free.

“Maddie has worked very hard all season and it was awesome to see that pay off with her best times of the season,” said Carlisle head coach Erin Tateishi-Ouellette. “We are very proud of her as she has earned and has deserved these accomplishments.”

Wing, a Presque Isle High School senior, was also the last leg on the 400 freestyle relay team which placed seventh in 4:38.22. Others in that foursome were Emily Stillion, Abby Espling and Anna Loeb.

The 200 medley relay team, made up of Abigail Raymond, Stillion, Wing and Kyra Thibeault, placed ninth in 2:16.83.

The 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of Thibeault, Riley McNeal, Espling and Loeb, placed 11th in 2:13.93.

On Friday in the boys’ meet, Carlisle finished 14th out of 17 teams by scoring 12 points.

The 200 medley relay team of Chris Parent, James Lau, Jay Philbrick and Spencer Soucy ended up 10th in 2:13.48 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Philbrick, Martin Brozman, Lau and Soucy also was 10th in 2:04.92.

The Class A boys’ state meet is Saturday, Feb. 17, and the girls’ state meet is Monday, Feb. 19, both at the University of Maine at Orono beginning at 10 a.m.
