FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Fort Fairfield girls’ basketball team won all three of its games Saturday to capture top honors in the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association tournament for fifth- and sixth-graders played at the community center.

Fort Fairfield bested Presque Isle in the championship game, 27-15. Phoebe Solomon outscored PI by herself, pouring in 17 points. Kayla Mathie added four for the winners, while teammates Abby Benson and Brooklyn Benson controlled the rebounding on both ends of the floor. The win capped an undefeated season for Fort Fairfield, which won all 13 games it played.

Karlyn Gilmour posted six points and Grace O’Connell totaled four for Presque Isle, which trailed by eight points at halftime.

Fort Fairfield won its first round game over the Mars Hill sixth-graders, 28-17, and then bested the Mars Hill fifth-graders in the semifinals, 25-4.

Presque Isle’s road to the title game included a 36-3 quarterfinal victory over Easton and a 25-14 triumph over Caribou in the semifinals.

In the first game of the tourney, the Mars Hill fifth-graders nipped Washburn, 15-13.

Making up the all-tournament team were Lilly Clair of Mars Hill, Libby Collier-Irving of Caribou, Isabel Berry of Presque Isle and both Mathie and Solomon of Fort Fairfield.
